2012: The In-breath and the Out-breath

by Deborah Lindsey

I spent the weekend with thousands of like-minded friends at the Universal Light Expo this past weekend in Columbus. As always it was a glorious time. Perhaps my favorite part of the weekend, however, was dinner with friends on Saturday night. This tradition has continued for many years when some semblance of the same group piles in cars and head off to a local restaurant. For years it was Spaghetti Warehouse where I could indulge in my favorite Chili Mac but recently it has migrated to a local Greek Restaurant with delightful fare and decadent desserts.

Most years, I get the opportunity to hang out with IMU-alumni Mary Phelan and her long-time partner Neville Johnston. This year was no exception. I always enjoy spending time with these two as they have been such important teachers to me in my life. The two are always awash with new ideas and teachings, which isn’t surprising considering they have managed to put together more than 1000 episodes of their legendary TV show, Telepathic TV. Every week they somehow manage to come up with something new to say, having helped many, many people awaken in the process.

So on Saturday night, we were all sitting around talking and the top of 2012 came up. Its a fascinating subject for us as we have been talking about this topic since I first heard of it on Winter Solstice 2002 and here we are, 10 years later, watching the process unfold. I should note here that I am the neophyte in the group. Others among us had been waiting for this day since about the time of the Harmonic Convergence back in August of 1987. That’s 25 years folks!

So I posed the question, “Does anyone think anything is going to happen?”

A spattering of responses ensued. The most profound of which (for me at least) came from Mary.

As she put it (as close as I can remember), “I think it will be real but not noticed. It will be like the in-breath and the out-breath. If you notice, the breath comes very naturally but the change between the in-breath and the out-breath is almost imperceptible. I think it will be like that.”

I thought that was profound and I have been thinking about it ever since. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all collectively be a part of the out breath, of the releasing, the surrendering, where all worry and fear just dissipates? It was a comforting thought and one worth sharing.

With the much touted “shift of the ages” thought by many to be just more than 60 days out, it is certainly a joy to think about.
