Course Description:
Huna is a name given to the esoteric knowledge of ancient Hawaii. Shamanism is a craft that uses the powers of the mind and the forces of nature for healing and creativity.This course will cover Huna concepts and shamanic practices based on the following seven principles:
- The world is what you think it is
- There are no limits
- Energy flows where attention goes
- Now is the moment of power
- To love is to be happy with…
- All power comes from within
- Effectiveness is the measure of truth
The students will learn basic skills for personal development and healing in preparation for applying them to further studies of Huna Shamanism.

Urban Shaman by Serge Kahili King. Available from The Huna Store.
Course prerequisites:
Degree students: Associate degree. Non-degree: None.
Course objectives:
Students will learn how to understand and apply the principles of Huna, and will be given a background in ancient and modern forms of shamanism In addition they will learn specific techniques used in Huna and Hawaiian shamanism for the healing of body, mind, and circumstance.
Course topics:
Huna Shamanism and its Hawaiian cultural aspects.
Course format:
Audio lectures, course readings, questions, forum.
Assignments:
Students will read the required text and listen to the audio classes.
Assessment:
Students will take a 10-question objective test for each week of reading and audio lecture. Students will also participate in forum discussions covering topics from the classes.
Course Calendar:
All courses, unless stated otherwise, are to be completed within a 12-week semester. Four quarters run each year. The academic calendar is listed on the IMU website.
Due dates for assignments created using the “assignment” tool automatically appear on the course calendar. Other events of interest may be placed on the course calendar by the instructor. Students may add events to their personal calendar.
