Janet Decker, C.Ht., Dean of Metaphysics Asks; What Does it Mean To Be Spiritual?

We all know them, the spiritual/metaphysical folks who walk around claiming to dwell in a space of peace, love and joy all the time. They tell us to bless and love those who harm us and all will be fine. You know, the kind of people you want to bitch slap and find out what drugs they are taking so you can enjoy some too?

Well, I pose this question to them, where is their humanness? I think many people simply don’t understand what it means to be a spiritual person. It seems to me they believe that denying their humanness is being spiritual.  I consider myself to be a very spiritual person but I, in no way what so ever, walk around in a state of peace, love and joy 24/7. I could not do this even if I tried to. Maybe it’s because I am all about truth, seeking it, finding it, living it, being it.

I came to earth to experience the human condition and that is exactly what I am doing. I am here to experience all the joys, and miseries, that befall the average human being and boy oh boy am I! In this lifetime I have suffered from financial woes, heartbreak, uncertainty, illness, anger, frustration, grief, and failed relationships. I sometimes feel sad, lonely, and heartbroken. I sometimes feel jealously, fear and rage. It seems to me that to pretend I am so spiritual that everyday life does not at times get me down would be a huge lie and that is not in keeping with who I am. After 30 years on a spiritual path the one thing I can say with absolute certainty is, it’s okay to be human. Not only is it okay, it is what we are supposed to be. Why else would we have incarnated on 3D earth as human beings?

My sense of the grand scheme of the Universe is that to deny our humanness is to return again and again, life time after life time, until we do experience the full spectrum of being human. So, that being said, there is no way I’m pretending anything. No sir, not me. I am going to scream in pain when I feel pain be it physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. I am going to say the “F” word when conditions warrant it. I am going to tell Goddess exactly what I think of him/her when the pain gets too great. And yes I am even going to cuss Goddess if that is what I am feeling. I sense this is my last incarnation on 3D earth and I’m not taking any chances on having to come back to do it again. I am pulling out all the stops this, hopefully, last time around. I am giving full expression to whatever I am feeling, be joy and happiness, or deep anger and grief. Full expression of the latter can be ugly my friends so you may not want to be in the line of fire when I get upset. :)

Also, reincarnation aside, as Cheryl Lee Harnish says so beautifully; “Our soul’s truth shines in being who we are. We cannot hide, control or deny even one small part of ourselves without hiding our light as well.”  I find this statement to be oh so true. The ugliness I sometimes feel and exhibit is as much a part of me as the beauty I often feel. Why deny it?

In closing I say, let’s raise a cup to being human and giving full expression to this condition no matter what it looks like. WooHoo! And don’t take my beliefs as gospel check out the Consciousness Studies program at IMU. Dare to raise your own consciousness and discover your own truth.

Mayan Calendar Update: Only Days to Go

From: www.seancaulfield.com

Day Keeping particulars and translation for December 2012 – The Mayan calendar has many layers of understanding that can be seen in the different cycles and combinations within the 260 and 360 Day calendars.

Chinese Year of the Water Dragon and The Mayan calendar – December 2012
By Sean Caulfield – www.seancaulfield.com

On 6th December we go through the midpoint of 18 days of Akbal/Night – recreation of unity and dampened worldly ambition, the intention is seen in the number 10, which is “challenge” that brings manifestation. Akbal is Darkness before Light, the obsidian mirror of Prophecy. The end of old and beginning of new. A good day to make a fire as the Sun rises and ask for renewal and resurrection here on the face of the Earth. On 15th Dec Akbal fully comes through and what may have been held back until now will manifest.

2012 is the Chinese Year Of The Water Dragon. According to the Chinese Zodiac calendar on 22nd January 2012 the Year of the Rabbit ended, giving way for the Year of the Water Dragon which runs from 23rd January 2012 to 9th February 2013. A link to Chinese astrological predictions for 2012. http://www2.chineseastrologer.org/2012_year_of_the_water_dragon.php

The underlying bigger cycles of the Mayan calendar are at the effect of Alligator, Jaguar and Wind. My reference for this comes from a continuation and the new beginning of all the cycles of the 9 levels of the Mayan calendar. Life continues to manifest by an ever evolving purpose seen in evolutions growth and maturity of life through Creations Sacred 13 intention and 20 aspects that weave to form the sacred 260 day Tzolkin of the Maya peoples. Within this 260 day count, on the 5th of December 2012 we start a new 13 day Trecena of Kan/Lizard. You can go to the latest at Mayan Majix for more insight. http://www.mayanmajix.com/1mma_12_5_12.html. Kan/Lizard is a “day to ask for abundance… to unravel problems, to eliminate bad energy and influences, to loosen the ties that bind us to vices, and to fix emotional or romantic problems.” Carlos Barrios.

The 9 levels of the Mayan calendar started 16.4 Billion years ago. Link to the structure.
http://www.seancaulfield.com/Member/RockArtGallery/Images/ImageGallery/20120712055346690.pdf. Link from Dr. Calleman of how he sees the Mayan calendar’s cycle continuing. http://www.calleman.com/img/graph2012.pdf

The completion and build up to the top of the 9 levels has seen radical changes to the world. Our human consciousness is now able to fully see itself for what it is, without the filters that where in place before we reached the top of the Mayan calendar. We have potentially arrived at a connection with our zero point and new beginnings. Hence, all the cycles continue with a new understanding of purpose from the 29th October 2011. This new beginning reconnect us with the original dream of unity and the fact that we are one with the Divine Infinite Source of all the Universe. The original dream of unity could never fully manifest before the completion of the Mayan calendar. The reason for this is because the Mayan calendar’s 9 levels had not fully evolved through to the sacred completion number of 13. We have now been given the tools to fully manifest unity consciousness through 13. However because of the evident chaos in the collective unconscious and our heavily weighing unresolved “stuff”, it is going to take time for things to fully shift to a balanced equality. There is no quick fix solution, yet through patience and endurance we will prosper, through truth of heart we will attract long lasting peace and happiness.

The continuing underlying bigger cycles that start again are all about new beginnings holding the primordial energies of Imix which is known as the Alligator/Dragon.

Imix is Wetness, Earth Monster, Water Lily, Crocodile. Spiny One or Caiman. She is the First Mother, her place is where Sky and Earth meet the Ocean in the salty waters of the mangrove and water lily covered estuaries. Imix is a day so ancient it precedes the cultivation of maize, a world in which humans lived off the abundance of the Earth Mother through hunting and gathering all they needed for sustenance, shelter and sacrifice. A day of the Source of life, Mother Energy, Primal Waters, Blood, Nurture and sustenance. A time to clean oneself of negative chargers that have built up within us.

On the 22nd October 2012 we completed a 360 day Tun cycle of 1- Imix/Alligator/Dragon, the initiating of the new phenomena comes to the surface. We entered the new 360 day cycle of 2-Ik/Wind on the 23rd of October, a reaction that will allow for the new phenomena to be disseminated and communicated. This cycle will take us through to October 2013. Ik/Wind is the breath of life, the North Wind, the ripening and harvesting wind of the maize fields as well as the “Lords of Dust”. The spirit or vital energy that moves this world towards change. A good time to ask for our negativity, suffering and sorrows to be taken away and a day to ask that we may grow spiritually and that our path be cleared before us.

The 234 day cycles of 13×18 days is a large Trecena cycle on the Galactic plane that aligns to the 8th level of the Mayan calendar. On 19th June 2012 we started a large 234 day cycle of 1-Jaguar, a connection to the deep subconscious. This cycle completes on 6th February 2013 and the following 234 day cycle starts with 1-Deer which will initiate a time of bringing spiritual strength in nature. The Jaguar cycle that we are riding now brings a connection to the core of the Earth. Jaguar is the Lord of the night and Underworld. Jaguar is the warring sorcerer in the shaman’s field of battle for human hearts and souls. The Jaguar’s mirror-like golden eyes reflect the power of the sun who lets loose its “Nawales” across the Mountain-Plain as night falls on the face of the Earth. Within this Jaguar cycle, we are in the tenth 18 day cycle of 10-Akbal/Night. So on 6 December 2012 we reach the midpoint of 18 days of 10-Akbal/Night, the number 10 is all about the challenges that manifest and Akbal/Night is the recreation of unity and dampened worldly ambition.

On 16 December we start a new 18 days cycle of 11-Kan/Lizard/Seed, brings clarity and resolve for a time when sustenance naturally manifest and patience is rewarded. Kan/Lizard/Seed is the day of the “carrying net” into which the maize is harvested and brought down off the mountain. This is a day to give back with thanks. South is her direction and abundance is her destiny…….

On the 21st Dec 2012 it is 4-Ahau and we arrive at the summer/winter solstice and the Galactic astrological alignment of the 26000 years processional cycle. 4-Ahau is the 160th day of the 260 day Tzolkin and this day brings consciousness closest to the ration of the golden mean of 1.618 on the Tzolkin. The following day is 5-Imix and the start of the 9th Uinal of 20 days which “creates forward movement” in the process of the growth from seed to mature fruit. This sacred forward movement of Creation’s Divine Will is Quetzalcoatl or Christ consciousness energy. The message is that we are all Divine Universal Beings of Creation and nobody can take away our individuality.

We are one in Diversity. Everything is sacred because it is not separate. You are everything you see. What you do to life you are doing to yourself, so treat life how you want to be treated. Now is the time to become conscious and live with feeling. Your feelings come from the blood that circulates through your ancient heart and this connects you to all life, because the ancient heart is where all life has evolved from.

The Universal 19th Night(9×9) = 18 days of applying the new consciousness
Start of 18 days of 12-Chicchan /Serpent, creates understanding for vital energy, instinct and desire for creativity

In my understanding nothing could fully mature to its truth of 13 intentions until the completion of the 9 levels of the Mayan calendar on 28th October 2011. Before this date there were big manipulations. It is now the time of the Great Revealing.

On the Mayan calendar the numbers 1 to 13 are sacred universal waves that emanate as Divine intentions aligned to the evolution and growth of life from seed to mature fruit. Starting with 1 = initiate, 2 = reaction, 3 = activate, 4 = stability, 5 = empower, 6 = flow, 7 = reveal, 8 harmonize, 9 = forward movement, 10 = challenge, 11 = clarity, 12 = understanding, 13 = complete. Humans complete there cycle to becoming and elder after roughly 52 years, this equates to 4 cycles of 1 to 13, 360 day cycles. Thus we become a teenager at roughly 13 years of age.

Keeping Up with Carla Rueckert and the Law of One

Carla Rueckert teaches The Law of One for the International Metaphysical UniversityAt IMU, we are always so proud of our instructors. We are soo blessed to have attracted such amazing teachers into our circle. One of those instructors that I can hardly believe we attracted was Carla Rueckert. Many of you might not know her name but you certainly know her work.

Carla is the woman who channeled the Law of One materials. This work, which is considered a classic by serious students of metaphysics, circles the globe in its influence. Most notably David Wilcock, who studied at the feet of Carla for a year, has taught this information far and wide.

Here at IMU, you too, can study at Carla’s feet, as she both teaches this class directly and interacts directly as well (well, she interacts INDIRECTLY through her assistant Gary, who relays her answers for her.) I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting both and am just so happy that we have them as part of the team. If you are looking to take a class that will blow your mind and really take you to the next level, I highly recommend “The Law of One.”

This course is to be enjoyed by those who are interested in Consciousness Studies, Intuitive Arts (the quality of the channeling with knock your socks off), and Ufology as she is working with an intergalactic council to bring through these very high-level teachings, including the prophecies that speak very specifically of the times in which we live.

So here is an update for ways that you can learn more about Carla and her devoted husband Jim McCarty.

(1) AWAKENING TRUTH WORLDWIDE

Carla will participate in an online conference hosted by the channel Brad Johnson of “Awakening Truth Worldwide” on December 9, 2012 at 3:00 pm eastern time. http://www.awakeningtruthworldwide.com/fe/34503-the-contact-assembly-teachings-of-the-law-of-one

A day at the hospital with mom: A grim reminder of why we do what we do at IMU

On Saturday night I took a few minutes to check Facebook before setting into bed for the night. Admittedly, it was 3 am and I was looking for a way to fall to sleep. It had been a fun and active day and I needed a way to chill.

But then, quite unexpectedly, a saw a post from my sister that says that my mom had been taken to the hospital with a stroke a full 24 hours before! Jesus! And no one had called!

Its very disconcerting to get this kind of news in the middle of the night and under these conditions as there was little I could do. It wasn’t like I could even call anyone! So I did the only thing I could. I sent texts cancelling my plans for the next day (a lovely day eating ribs with a new friend while watching football in Baltimore). And then I tumbled off into a restless sleep.

I awoke to news that it wasn’t a stroke but that no one really knew what it was. So I packed my car, with my travelling kitty Nemo, and off we went on the three-hour journey to see mom.

Now here’s the thing. My mom is a diabetic. And I don’t say that casually. My mom is a DIABETIC in all caps. Her numbers run off the charts and she seems to have little or no concern about it. I’m pretty sure that I worry about it more than anyone else (and yes, I KNOW that worry does more harm than good) but I am concerned nonetheless. She’s only 70 years old and one can only imagine what another 15 or 20 years of this will do to her.

So the doctor comes in and asserts that something went wrong with her meds though I know the doctor is just grasping at straws. he doesn’t really know and is guessing. Its not a bad guess as she’s on enough drugs to kill a small horse. But it wasn’t the problem and she knew it.

She secretly confided that it was something slightly less sinister. Turns out she was drunk for the first time in her life. lol. Apparently someone had bought some peach schnapps and she had a drink and then two and then ten. I’m certain it was the sugar talking as I have never known her to drink in my life. So the alcohol on top of her 2 dozen narcotics and the diabetes was a dreadful combination that sent her literally and figurative flying through the air, as the third eye opened and she experienced the unseen world around her in what some would call a psychic experience, others would call hallucinations, and what the doctors called, “confusion.”

All I can say is I will take that over a stroke any day of the week.

So I finally get to the hospital and spend the evening with my mom. While I’m there the nurse comes in and offers her a late night snack. Now trust me, I’m a big fan of the late night snack but my mom is literally laying in a hospital bed with sugar numbers running 4 times the safe limit even after taking the maximum amount of insulin possible and the nurse comes in and offers her (I’m not kidding you)… grape juice. Or she can have apple or orange juice instead.

I just looked at her, incredulous. I mean, why not just break out a syringe and shoot the woman with sugar right into her veins! With a little luck they really COULD send her into a stroke!

My mom, of course, lept at the at the idea of hospital-sanctioned liquid sugar! I had to practically pry it from her hands!

So along comes lunch the next day (I wasn’t there to see what they gave her for breakfast) and here comes more grape juice along with sweetened fruit medley from a can to top off her mashed potatoes and gravy. I just shook my head.

Later they come in and ask her what she wants for dinner and offers her a plate of pasta! And when I look at them and say, “do you realize that she is in here because she is diabetic, they talk to me as if it is perfectly appropriate to feed a diabetic a plate full of sugar for dinner!”

Anyway, I’m venting (can ya tell?!) Probably because of my secret fear about watching my beloved mom decline, knowing its inevitable but also knowing that it doesn’t have to be this way. While we were there, an older gentleman stopped by on his rounds. Turned out he was 93 years old and still working as a volunteer at the hospital. He was in obvious good health. During his brief stay he looked up and saw my mom’s name. And he said, “Lindsey, now that’s an old name. Do you know of the Lindsey’s in Vira? Norman Lindsey used to live out there.” Mom replied, “That is my father-in-law.”

Off they went on memory lane when it occurred to me that this man was a contemporary of my grandfather who had been dead since 1977. That’s 25 years folks. And can you imagine how different my life would be if I still had my grandpa? It made me sad. Pap had cancer and of course the chemotherapy made his life hell and very, very short. And it made me realize that it is possible to get another 25 years with my mom too, but that the medical trajectory wasn’t making that look too likely.

By now you’re wondering, what does any of this have to do with why we do what we do at IMU?

You see, to me, I don’t see doctors as making you well. Most of the time I see them as as much of the enemy as the solution. It isn’t that they are bad people. To the contrary, most of them get into medicine with the sincere intention of doing good in the world and then get caught up in a system that supports a culture of drugs and surgery that is intent on keeping people sick and taking everything they have in their later years. My own parents are a screaming example of this as they pay thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars every year on pills, pills that they are now convinced they can’t live without.

At IMU, we seek to establish a true Healthcare system in the world, instead of the current Sickcare system we call a medical system. We seek to utilize natural means to get to the underlying cause of illness and to correct it (instead of covering it up) to help the body to heal itself. We do this through the myriad amazing classes we offer in our holistic healthcare program.

If you would like to be a part of the solution instead of a part of the problem, we are here to help.

And remember we are offering a $75 discount, our largest ever, until December 21. If you would like to take advantage of this, you can sign up for a course or call us at 304-295-4411 for guidance.

A Little Fish Story with Cat Running Elk

I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting Cat Running Elk at one point in the past. Cat is an intuitive and shaman who drove up from Florida to teach a class at my center in WV.  I found her to be very special. She’s one of those woman who spews love and lives her life with complete devotion to spirit by allowing life to flow through her with absolute courage. And she does it all with her kids in tow!

Anyway, I have subscribed to her newsletter ever since and I thought the story she wrote today was particularly compelling. Any of us who have ever loved an animal, even the most unlikely of animals, knows that this is true. And I can only assume that many of our students also talk to animals so you will understand the truth in what she says.

A Little Fish Story

It was just a five-dollar fish in a cup.

And so I did not expect him to speak to me in my heart. I really didn’t expect much from him at all.

But in the end this little five-dollar fish named Gabriel changed my mind.

When my daughters were picking him out at the pet store, I wandered through the other aisles. I had no interest in a fish.

Lolo said she wanted a fish for her new kitten. That made sense to me. A fish might be fun for a cat to watch.

I looked at the dog toys and longed for a companion to lick my face in the morning. I ran my fingers over the chewie toys and wished for a furry friend to hug and hold.

When I came back to the fish area, they were trying to pick out one fish from dozens of other blue fish in plastic cups.

I was stunned that these fish were alive in these tiny containers. I went and found a pet store fish expert and asked about their living conditions.

“How long can they live in a tiny cup?”

She replied with confidence, “Weeks.”

“Are you kidding?’ I was stunned anything could survive in a three-inch plastic container.

“In the wild they are known to live anywhere, even puddles. They are survivors.”

At the time I did not consider those fish to have feelings. I didn’t ask her if the fish were happy, I only wanted to know if they could live.

I went back to my daughters and said they were making a good choice. A survivor fish sounded like a good idea.

Yet I didn’t really focus on which blue fish was the right one. I still resisted making a connection.

I watched indifferently as they took the cupped fish to the cashier. I turned my attention to the dog magazines at the checkout stand.

Gabriel and Lolo bonded. I didn’t understand and I didn’t even try to get to know him.

Until one day I was sitting at Lolo’s desk, working on her computer.

Everyone else was out of the apartment, except me and the new kitten and Gabriel, the fish.

As I focused my attention on an email, I heard a voice say, “She forgot to feed me.”

I looked up and around.

The kitten was asleep nearby and the voice did not feel like one of my own spirit guides.

This was a new voice.

I closed my eyes and asked within where the voice was coming from.

Spirit opened my eyes. Right in front of me was Gabriel in his fish tank. He was looking straight at me, his face pressed close to the glass, mouth opening and closing, looking so very fishy.

“Is it really you?”

Gabriel told me Lolo forgot to feed him before she left. He asked me to do it. Then he told me how much to give him.

I was laughing at my own ignorance about fish as I fed him. He thanked me.

When Lolo came home, I told her what happened. She looked at me incredulously.

“Of course he talks. What did you think? Did you think fish were stupid?”

I was ashamed and embarrassed, “I just didn’t think a fish that came in a cup would speak to me! I don’t know. I guess since they have such small brains, well, I just didn’t think about it.”

I listened to the lack of wisdom spewing from my mouth, “Well, I’ve never tried to talk to a fish before, and none have ever tried to talk with me.”

Lolo asked how much I gave him. I told her Gabriel told me to feed him just two flakes, and Lolo said that was right. She apologized to Gabriel for forgetting to feed him and went on about her business. And she reminded me I have even communicated with spiders…why didn’t I believe I could talk to a fish?

I apologized to Gabriel for being so stupid. I apologized and told him I had never spent time with a fish before and that I had a lot to learn from him.

I have always communicated with nature, all of nature. Since I was a child I have spoken to trees, birds, squirrels, dogs, cats, snakes, dolphin and more importantly, they speak to me.

But fish?

I never expected much from a fish.

I did not expect Gabriel to have a voice. But he did.

From that moment on I woke up each day eager to greet him. I even learned how to pet him. I would place my finger at the top of the tank, and he would swim up to meet me. Ever so gently I would stroke just above his fins, and he swam around in circles to come back under my hand again and again.

My heart opened up to a fish.

I learned another valuable lesson from a beautiful creature, and then the tough fish that can live in puddles began to die.

After he left us I grieved openly.

Grace asked what the appropriate grieving time was for a fish.

I didn’t know. I told her we would wait and see.

We were soon after laughing together as a family about my determination not to bond with the little blue fish in a cup.

Amber laughed as I spoke highly of our little fish, and she said, “Mommy, you just can’t help loving everyone!”

She’s right. I tried not to love that fish, but turned out Gabriel spoke my language. I had to love him.

If they have scales or not, if they live on land or if they live in water, if they arrive in a beautiful package or come in a cup, all are wise, noble beings with much to teach us.

I judged him. And in doing so I almost completely ruined an opportunity to love.

My walls of ignorance almost kept me from making a new friend. Thanks to Gabriel’s hunger, he broke through the limitations I tried to place on him.

Instead of holding low expectations of others, we must learn to look for the potential in everyone.

If we do not expect much of others, we won’t get much. Instead we can learn to see the best in everyone. Remember that wisdom flows in and through us all.

When wisdom lives on the surface, we recognize it easily. It is when wisdom is deep and hidden that we often judge too quickly that it is not there at all.

Learn to see the best in everyone.

Learn to see beneath the surface.

See the wisdom within all God’s creatures – each and every one.

Even the little fish.

In Love and Unity,

Farmer feeds GMO corn to his pigs: they all become sterile.

Having grown up on a farm myself, I’ve seen these sorts of anomalies myself.  I remember one time when my dad’s farm was threatened by the chemicals from medications in poop! He had agreed to harvest the hay from a neighbor’s field and take half the yield for his work. Well that neighbor had done something called “sludging” where they left a local sewage plant spread some poop on the field. Now normally this would be a way for the farmer to get natural fertilizer for free and give the sewage plant a useful way to dispose of their sewage, providing a perfect natural food cycle.

In this case, however, the poop had so many toxins in it from people taking pills that it almost wiped out my dad’s heard of cattle.

And by the way, this has become such a prevalent problem that nowadays almost no one will accept human poop for their fields. It, like our population, is just so polluted with drugs that it is toxic to our environment. People rarely stop to think about the effect they are having on the entire natural cycle of life by taking all of these pills.

And pee is even worse! Nowadays, the fish and wildlife commission is having to remove animals from creeks and other waterways because the animals are morphing or dying because of all the medications that humans, en masse, are peeing into our food and water supply every year.

It makes me sad for our planet.

And it makes me sad that the whole world (the USA at least) runs to pills instead of learning more natural ways to take care of themselves. I can’t tell you the number of people I know who truly believe that they can’t live  without their pills.

At the International Metaphysical University, we are sincerely working to help people to realize that your health is ultimately your responsibility. There are so many ways to get well and keep well through natural means that I’m constantly flabbergasted by the fact that almost everyone runs to pills first!

I sometimes wonder if the world has gotten to a place of no return. Its almost impossible to find real food anymore. It’s all been tampered with. And our food supply, which includes animals who have been fed GMO so even if your veggies haven’t been genetically altered, then the animals that we eat have been fed the stuff. And if we could possibly avoid this onslaught then our water supply is infested with the drugs that everyone is peeing into it. It has gotten to a place where it is almost impossible to get water, even water from a bottle or from a filter, that doesn’t include someone else’s medicine. Google it and you’ll see. Water treatment plants don’t have a way of removing much of it.

And even if you’re drinking from a well, it has almost assuredly run off into your groundwater.

I guess I’m still reeling from my luncheon from the lady at the FDA last week. When you realize that the top officials that are charged with the job of protecting our food supply are in on it, it is devastating. Well, it is for me at least.

So here is the latest glaring example of what GMO can do.

Jon Kabat-Zinn: The Benefits of Meditation on Brain and Body

Jon Kabat-Zinn, a pioneer of scientific research on meditation, describes  the benefits of meditation practice on the mind, brain and body. One of the main points he discusses is how meditation actually makes changes in the brain structurally, in a process that is known in neuroscience as neuroplasticity.

Here are some excerpts from the video:
“Meditation can transform your life and be profoundly healing. And it does that by working on the entire organism–from your chromosomes to your cells to your brain. And it affects all organ systems within the body. We’re beginning to understand that, including the immune system and how the brain activity functions under stress and under difficult situations, how we regulate emotions and so forth.

“And the brain, being an organ of experience, actually is continually changing its shape. This is that kind of discovery of neuroplasticity.  And so how we decide to live our lives, and in the sense how we decide to keep our minds, actually changes not just our ideas and opinions and how caught we get in them, but actually changes our relationship to thought. And then when we look at the structure of the brain, not only is the brain functioning differently, but the actual structure of the brain, that what some pople call the real estate of the brain,  is being recruited in the service of greater compassion, equanimity, clarity and wisdom. And you can see that in different regions of the brain that actually become thicker.”

Important Sakai Update

by Deborah Lindsey

Many of you have noticed changes in Sakai, our course management system. Over the past few days our glorious and much beloved Sakai Guru, Donald Frye, has been working tirelessly to update our systems. You’ll see that much has changed, though he is doing everything he can do to maintain the original look and feel of the website. In many ways its like leaping from Windows XP to Vista and much is affected. If you are having any problems or need help navigating through the changes, please let us know. Pick up the phone and call or send an email to info@intermetu.com. We’ll do our best to help you get through it. Plus it really helps us to know what is and isn’t working so we can get it up to par on our end.

In the meantime, we just want to acknowledge the  hard work that is being completed by Don. Its no small feat and it is worthy of recognition. Without the server and all of its illustrious contents IMU would be, well, not much. So Don is an important part of the team who generally works in the background. We are grateful to have him.

Halloween

http://icons.iconarchive.com/icons/flameia/i-love-autumn/128/Pumpkins-icon.png

Since today is October 31st I thought it appropriate to write just a little about the origins of this holiday.

Samhain (Halloween), spoken or Anglicized as Sowin, is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year that we call winter. It is celebrated October 31 – November 1.  It is halfway between Mabon (Fall Equinox) and Yule (Winter Solstice). Imbolc (Feb. 1), Beltane (May 1) and Lughnasadh (Aug.1) make up the other 3 Gaelic seasonal festivals.

In the Gaelic tradition many important events happened on Samhain. At this time the cattle were brought back down from the summer pastures and it is a time when livestock were slaughtered for the winter. Bonfires were created and people and their livestock would walk between them as a cleansing ritual. After the slaughter the bones of the animals were then cast into the fires.

It was believed that at Samhain the doorway between the worlds would open allowing passage from the world of the dead, and also other worlds such as the fairy kingdom, into this world.

Tables would be set with an extra plate as an invitation for loved ones who had passed to come and dine. It was a way to honor the dead. At this time people would take steps to protect themselves from harmful spirits and it is possible that this is what led to “guising” or dressing up in costume. Divination was also done at Samhain.

In the “Old Country”, Scotland and Ireland, children went door to door dressed in costumes, guising, and would only get a treat, and sometimes money, if they first preformed for the household. The children would sing, recite a poem or a funny joke and some would do things even more elaborate such as playing a mouth organ.

Since the 20th century Samhain has been celebrated as a religions holiday by the Celtic neopagans and Wiccan’s.

Have a safe and fun Samhain… And watch out for witches!

What is Ho’oponopono

Basic Huna: Ho’oponopono

by Tad James

http://www.ancienthuna.com/ho-oponopono.htm

Ho’oponopono means to make right. Essentially, it means to make it right with the ancestors, or to make right with the people with whom you have relationships. We believe that the original purpose of Ho’oponopono was to correct the wrongs that had occurred in someone’s life including Hala (to miss the thing aimed for, or to err, to disobey) and Hewa (to go overboard or to do something to excess) which were illusions, and even ‘Ino (to do harm, implying to do harm to someone with hate in mind), even if accidental.

This description is by no means a complete training in how to do Ho’oponopono. While appropriate to do for yourself, for yours and others safety, it should not be done with someone else without training.

For example, let’s say your five-year-old grandson punched another five-year-old intentionally with hate in mind. If asked, then the one who was punched would forgive the other immediately, because it is inappropriate for anyone to carry guilt any longer than they had to, if it were not necessary.

We call this the Hawaiian Code of Forgiveness, and it’s an important thought, because when we forgive others, who are we forgiving? Ourselves, of course.

If you are familiar with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), there is a saying, “People are only doing the best they can with the resources they have available.” If you’ve heard that before, it has to do with forgiveness. Think about it. As you do consider that you are included in “people.”

In the Eastern traditions, too, there is a real tradition of being aligned with and cleaning up relations with the ancestors. In Japan, China, as well as the Hawaiian tradition, it is thought to be important to align and clean up any past problems that you’ve had in relationships, especially with relatives.

At the same time, perhaps there are family patterns you do not want. Certainly you have heard the saying, “We just don’t do that in our family,” or “That’s the way it is in our family.” What happens then, is that certain generational themes get passed along in families, like sadness or any number of different traits. Ho’oponopono will allow you to clean this up.

THEORY: We carry inside us as parts of the Unconscious Mind, all the significant people in our lives. (These parts of us often look very much like Carl Jung’s archetypes.) Ho’oponopono makes it “all right” with them. The process of Ho’oponopono is to align with and clean up our genealogy as well as to clean up our relationships with other people in our lives.

The Process of Ho’oponopono:

  1. Bring to mind anyone with whom you do not feel total alignment or support, etc.
  2. In your mind’s eye, construct a small stage below you
  3. Imagine an infinite source of love and healing flowing from a source above the top of your head (from your Higher Self), and open up the top of your head, and let the source of love and healing flow down inside your body, fill up the body, and overflow out your heart to heal up the person on the stage. Be sure it is all right for you to heal the person and that they accept the healing.
  4. When the healing is complete, have a discussion with the person and forgive them, and have them forgive you.
  5. Next, let go of the person, and see them floating away. As they do, cut the cord that connects the two of you (if appropriate). If you are healing in a current primary relationship, then assimilate the person inside you.
  6. Do this with every person in your life with whom you are incomplete, or not aligned.
  7. The final test is, can you see the person or think of them without feeling any negative emotions. If you do feel negative emotions when you do, then do the process again.
***************************************************

Ho’oponopono is a shamanic practice that can save lives. It is transformative in nature. Its power can help to heal our ancestors and future generations.  IMU instructor Mark Perkins teaches a course in H’oponopono at IMU.In this course you will learn this process in depth as he guides you along the journey.

You can register for the course and get started today if you’d like.
