People everywhere are seeking true connection to the unseen world. At the International Metaphysical Churches, we offer an alternative to the traditional mainstream beliefs – an alternative that allows for YOU in the equation. At IMC, you are given the freedom to explore what YOU believe and yet we offer a framework to help guide you along the way.

At IMC, we explore psychic phenomena including mediumship, meditation, the presence of non-humans or other energies, and a wide variety of explorations into consciousness. We believe that all of these are worthy of exploration yet make no claims as to what is true or not true. We only know that people throughout history have reported psychic experiences that can be described as interactions with the divine. This can also be found in the form of shamanic journeying as found in the Native American Tradition (Hedonism) and through spiritual healing.

IMC has been a place for people to come for spiritual development, psychic development, and healing. Hundreds of people have passed our doors in search of a higher understanding. For many years, IMC offered regular weekly services on top of the constant spiritual training that was ever present. In 2007, IMC began ordaining ministers and in 2009 we opened the International Metaphysical University. With the opening of IMU, the services moved to an online format making the teachings of IMC available to people all over the world.

IMC was started in 2001 by Deborah Lindsey and Joseph Fielder as “The Self-Health and Awareness Center.” Over time, however, it became clear that the common terminology of Church was more familiar to people and the name was changed to the International Metaphysical Churches.

Quite simply, Metaphysics is the exploration of things not yet understood or explained by physics. Technically it is “beyond physics” or “beyond the physical.” This can in some ways apply to all belief systems. Many of our followers are also entrenched in the Christian, Buddhists, Pagan, Wicca, Spiritualists, Native American, or Hindu traditions and yet they integrate the metaphysical beliefs WITHIN these traditions.

This is easy to do because we hold no judgment of other traditions, understanding that truth can be found in all beliefs and that each person must find their own path back to the divine. In fact, many metaphysical churches are considered Christian and actually teach from the Bible. This is much like the Spiritualist tradition.

The International Metaphysical Churches began in Vienna, WV in 2003. We were originally called The Self-Health and Awareness Center in deference the somewhat inherent prejudice of the community in which it was created and because so many members our our community are uncomfortable with the largely Christian terminology of “Church.” More and more people in our community refer to their places of gathering and worship as Centers in reference to the community they create.

Like the Native American tradition, however, we believe that the place of gathering is irrelevant. It is within us and travels within us wherever we go. Ceremonies can take place at a commerical location (often the least desirable), in your home, at sacred sites, in nature, or in the recesses of your own mind. A church is as much a state of mind as it is a location and at IMC, we honor that.
IMC was originally founded by Reverends Deborah Lindsey and Joseph Fielder. Within a short time, Reverend Randall Hastings joined the team and regular weekly ceremonies commenced. For the next 8 years, the Center offered weekly ceremonies. They also grew to include spiritual healing services and regular training. The trainings included Holistic Healing, Spiritual Development, Psychic Development, Shamanic teachings, Galactic teachings (UFOs) and more.

In 2009, SHAC (IMC) grew to include an international teaching division called “The International Metaphyiscal University.” The University has since grown to offer courses in different aspects of Metaphysics including Consciousness Studies, Intuitive Arts, Energy Healing, and Shamanic Studies.
